A golf cart brand owner has chosen a battery factory and plans a first OEM order of ten packs under its own label. The factory is ready to produce, but the brand owner wants to know which points must be signed off before a larger order.
Approve in writing: the specification sheet, BMS parameters, a pre-production sample, the label and logo artwork, packaging, the test and transport documents, the acceptance tests on the pilot packs and the warranty terms. A pilot is cheap because OEM custom orders have no MOQ by default (1 piece), and some products carry a 10-piece minimum, so use it to find problems before volume. Only place the volume order after the pilot packs pass your acceptance checks.
The approval list
- Specification sheet. Voltage, capacity, dimensions, weight, terminals, communication and options. Redway’s golf cart product pages show a model table you can mark up, and options include Bluetooth, app, 4G, GPS, CAN-bus and more.
- BMS parameters. Cut-off voltages, current limits, temperature limits and the charge profile for the charger you will supply.
- Sample. Test one pack in your cart: fit, wiring, range, hills, charging and temperature.
- Branding. Redway lists silkscreen, label, laser logo and user manual options. Approve artwork proofs, colours and label wording.
- Packaging. Carton or case, pallet, labels and dangerous-goods marks.
- Documents. Redway’s About page lists UN 38.3 and Grade-A cells (CATL, EVE), along with UL1973, UL2580 and IEC62133; scope is confirmed per model and order. Redway’s batteries are designed and tested to UL-related standards (for example UL 2580 for EV batteries). The test report is typically issued in the customer’s name, and scope and applicable standards are confirmed at quotation. Ask for a report under your own company name and check the standard number, model and date. Ask for the UN 38.3 summary and SDS for your model.
- Acceptance tests. Write the checks and limits before production starts: capacity at a stated rate, voltage at shipment, label accuracy, insulation and a BMS function test.
- Warranty. Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model. Confirm the term and claims process in the order.
Why a pilot is worth it
A pilot shows the factory’s lead time, communication and quality at low cost. Redway’s OEM and ODM page and OEM engineering page describe the service. Our branding article covers labels in detail.
After the pilot
Hold a short review: what passed, what failed, what changed and what the factory learned. Update the specification to a numbered version that includes agreed changes, then place the volume order against that version. Plan a first inspection of the volume batch against the same acceptance checks, using a sample chosen by you.
Risk limits
Keep the pilot specification as the baseline: any later change to cells, BMS or enclosure should be agreed in writing. A pilot of ten packs does not prove long-term life, so keep monitoring field performance. This article is general guidance for buyers.
Additional perspectives
Set acceptance criteria before the sample arrives, and write them into the order. It is hard to argue about a result when the test and the limit were agreed after the fact.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Brand owner perspective
Run the sample for a full duty cycle on the real cart, including the hill and the cold start that your customers meet. Log voltage, current and temperature so the BMS limits can be checked against actual use.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Product engineer perspective
Keep the pilot and volume order on the same specification number and ask the factory to confirm that tooling, labels and packaging carry over. Ask how change control works if the factory changes a component.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Sourcing manager perspective
Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
