A distributor receives three quotes for the same 48V golf cart battery and the prices differ widely. The specification sheets look similar, and the buyer wants to know which differences explain the gap.
Price differences usually trace to nine drivers: cell grade and brand, capacity and voltage, BMS and communication options, enclosure and construction, order volume and mix, OEM customisation and labels, documents and test reports, freight terms, and payment and warranty terms. Compare quotes line by line on those drivers instead of on the total, and ask each supplier to state the cell brand, BMS, warranty and Incoterm in writing. No price is quoted here, because prices depend on the model and order.
The nine drivers
- Cells. Brand, grade and lot control. Redway’s About page describes Grade-A cells (CATL, EVE).
- Capacity and voltage. More energy needs more cells. Redway lists 36V, 48V and 72V golf cart packs.
- BMS and options. Current rating, communication and extras such as Bluetooth, app, 4G, GPS, LCD or CAN-bus.
- Enclosure. Metal or plastic case, ingress protection and mounting. Check ingress protection and mounting for your use.
- Volume and mix. Larger orders and fewer variants lower unit cost. OEM custom orders have no MOQ by default (1 piece), although some specific products carry a 10-piece minimum, so confirm for your model.
- Customisation. Label, logo, manual, special size or firmware.
- Documents. Test reports, transport documents and any reports issued in your name; scope is confirmed at quotation.
- Freight terms. EXW, FOB and CIF shift cost lines between supplier and buyer; see our Incoterms article.
- Payment and warranty. Deposit size, payment terms and the warranty length all carry cost. Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model.
How to compare quotes
Put the quotes in a table with one column per driver, and fill blanks by asking. Our 48V 100Ah quote comparison and the proforma invoice article show the method. Redway’s wholesale pricing and logistics page gives background.
What not to compare
Do not compare a headline price with a landed price, a quote with a different cell brand, or a short warranty with a longer one. Convert each quote to the same basis: same Incoterm, same options, same payment terms. After that adjustment, the price gap often narrows, and the remaining difference is easier to explain.
Risk limits
A low price may hide a lower-grade cell, a smaller BMS, a shorter warranty or a different Incoterm, and a high price may include features you do not need. Verify the specification by sample test. This article is general guidance for distributors.
Additional perspectives
Ask every supplier the same eight questions in writing and keep the answers in a comparison sheet. When a supplier does not answer a question, treat the blank as a cost you may have to carry.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Distributor buyer perspective
Compare landed cost per usable kWh and per year of warranty, not unit price. Include freight, duty, payment terms and stock days, since they change which quote is actually cheapest.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Finance perspective
Open the specification for the details that suppliers rarely volunteer: continuous and peak current, BMS brand, communication, case material and cell grade. Two packs with the same label capacity can differ in the parts that matter for hills and fleet use.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Technical manager perspective
Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
