A dealer has three quotations for a “48V 100Ah lithium golf cart battery”. The highest price is well above the lowest, and every quote uses the same headline description.
The headline only tells you the voltage class and capacity. Price gaps usually come from lines that are easy to skip: the actual nominal voltage and energy, the BMS continuous current, the conditions behind the cycle-life figure, the enclosure and IP rating, communication and display options, certifications at pack level, warranty terms and what is included, such as a charger or brackets. Line these up before comparing prices.
The specification lines to compare
- Nominal voltage and energy. A “48V” LiFePO4 pack may be 48V or 51.2V nominal. Compare watt-hours, not just Ah. Redway’s 48V 100Ah OEM pack is listed at 4800Wh. Its RG5156 is described as 51.2V 56Ah.
- BMS continuous current. The same capacity may be offered at 200A, 250A or 315A, and this affects both cost and hill performance.
- Cycle-life conditions. “8000 cycles” means little without the depth of discharge and C-rate behind it. Redway’s OEM pack states over 8000 cycles at 60% DOD. Compare at the same DOD.
- Enclosure and IP rating. For example, IP66 ABS on the OEM pack. Ask about internal brackets and vibration protection.
- Communication and display: RS485, Bluetooth app, SOC display.
- Certifications: which standards apply, and whether they cover the cell or the complete pack.
- Warranty: length, what it covers and how claims work. The OEM pack lists 3 years.
- Commercial terms: Incoterm, MOQ, lead time, charger included or not.
How to build a fair comparison
- Put every quote into one table with the rows above and leave blanks where a supplier gave no figure.
- Send each supplier the same list of blanks and ask for written answers.
- Convert prices to the same Incoterm, for example FOB or CIF to your port.
- Compare cost per usable kWh over the warranty period, not just unit price.
Risk limits
Treat a missing figure as unknown, not as equal to the best quote. Don’t accept a cycle-life figure without its test conditions, or a certificate that doesn’t name the model. A low quote with a lower BMS rating may suit flat courses but not hilly ones. See Battery OEM & Buying and Golf Cart Batteries.
Additional perspectives
Ask for a sample under the same terms you’d buy in volume, and record the sample’s serial and BMS version. Redway’s golf cart product pages list FOB, EXW and CIF terms and T/T, L/C or PayPal payment. Normalize every quote to one Incoterm before comparing, because freight and insurance for lithium batteries (a dangerous-goods class) can be a large share of landed cost.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Procurement perspective
Decide which lines are non-negotiable for your use before you look at price. For hilly courses or modified carts that’s usually BMS current. For coastal or washdown use it’s IP rating. For rental fleets it’s monitoring. A cheaper quote that misses a must-have line isn’t comparable, whatever its price.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Selection perspective
Compare how warranty claims are handled, not just how long the warranty runs. Who diagnoses a fault? Is it remote via app data, or by return? Who pays freight for a dangerous-goods return? Are spare BMS boards available? These terms are rarely on the first quotation, so ask for them in writing.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – After-sales perspective
Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
