A dealer wants to offer a 48V lithium pack as an upgrade for a cart model it sells. Before ordering, the service manager needs to know which measurements and details to check in the battery bay so the first installations go smoothly.
Check the bay, not just the pack’s outside size. Measure the usable length, width and height with any bars or brackets in place, note where the main cables come in, and compare terminal positions, tie-down points, charge port and display location with the pack drawing. Then fit one pack in one cart before ordering a batch. Redway can adjust case details on OEM orders, which have no MOQ by default, though some specific products carry a 10-piece minimum.
Measurements to take
- Usable space. Length, width and height between fixed parts, with seat supports and brackets in place, plus some clearance for lifting the pack in.
- Terminals. Where the cart’s main positive and negative cables arrive, and how long they are. A pack with terminals on the wrong side may need new cables.
- Tie-downs. The existing hold-down bars or brackets and where they press. A lithium pack must be restrained so it cannot slide.
- Charge port and display. Where the charging socket and any state-of-charge display will be mounted, and the cable route to them.
- Drainage and heat. Check that water cannot pool around the pack and that it sits away from hot parts.
Comparing with the pack drawing
Ask the supplier for a dimensioned drawing showing terminals, mounting points and the BMS communication port. Lay it over your measurements. Redway lists case sizes on its product pages, and on custom orders it can usually adapt brackets, terminal position or case height. Our cart platform article covers deeper changes.
Trial installation
Fit one pack, route cables, connect the charger and display, and drive a normal route. Note anything that needed adjustment and write it into the kit instructions. Redway’s installation and wiring page and our SOC display article give background.
Risk limits
Bays vary between model years of the same cart, so check each model. Do not modify the frame without the vehicle maker’s advice. Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model. This article is general guidance for dealers.
Additional perspectives
Photograph the bay from above with a tape measure in shot. The photo answers many questions the factory would otherwise ask by email.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Service manager perspective
Build a one-page fit sheet per cart model. It saves time on every later installation and helps sales say yes or no quickly.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Dealer perspective
Check the cable bend radius at the terminals. A pack that fits but forces a sharp bend in a heavy cable will cause trouble later.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Engineer perspective
Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
