A distributor receives a container of lithium golf cart batteries. Testing every pack would take days, so the quality manager wants a sampling plan that gives confidence without holding up sales.
Use a recognised sampling plan, such as an AQL plan under ISO 2859-1, agreed with the supplier before shipment, so the sample size follows the lot size and the level of inspection you choose. Check every carton for damage and labels, then test the sample for voltage, BMS communication, display and a short functional check, with a capacity test on a few packs. Record results by serial number and agree in advance what happens if a sample fails.
Choosing the sample
- Agree the plan. Put the sampling standard, inspection level and acceptance limits in the purchase agreement.
- Random selection. Pick packs from different pallets and positions, not just the front of the container.
- Tighten when needed. Use a larger sample for a new supplier or a new model, and relax it as history builds.
What to check
- All cartons. Damage, correct labels and markings, and matching serial numbers on the packing list.
- Sample packs. Open-circuit voltage within the expected range for shipping charge, case condition and terminals.
- BMS and display. Communication works, the display reads sensibly and no alarms show.
- Function. A short charge or discharge, or a test in a cart.
- Capacity. A full capacity test on a few packs, if you have the equipment.
Records and follow-up
Record results by serial number and keep photos. If a sample fails, follow the agreed steps: test more packs, hold the lot and inform the supplier. Our outgoing QC article explains the factory’s side, and our RMA article covers claims.
Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model. The factory operates under ISO 9001/14001 management systems, and the certificate is available on request.
Risk limits
This article does not give sample sizes or pass values; take them from the standard and your agreement. Handle and store lithium packs following the supplier’s instructions. This article is general guidance for quality teams.
Additional perspectives
Agree the plan before the order ships. Arguing about sample size after a failure wastes time for both sides.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Quality manager perspective
Keep sampled packs marked and separate until results are in. Mixed tested and untested packs cause confusion later.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Warehouse lead perspective
Send us photos and serial numbers with any failure. With the serials, we can check production records quickly.
