A resort runs sightseeing carts on long routes and wants more range per charge. The manager is choosing between one long 200Ah-class pack and two smaller packs in parallel.
One long pack is often simpler: fewer connections, one BMS, one charger lead and a cleaner installation, if the vehicle has a bay of the right length. Two smaller packs in parallel are easier to handle and fit in tighter spaces, but they add wiring and need matching. Redway lists a long 48V pack with a nominal capacity around 210Ah and about 10.75 kWh, at about 940 mm long and 90 kg. Check the bay, the controller’s current and the charging plan before choosing.
Single long pack or two packs
- Space. A long pack needs a bay of about 940 mm by 340 mm by 250 mm, according to the product page. Measure the bay, including cable exits and supports.
- Weight. About 90 kg in one piece needs a plan for lifting; two lighter packs are easier to install and replace.
- Wiring. One pack means one set of cables and fewer joints. Parallel packs need equal cable lengths and a way to isolate each.
- Current. The product page lists a continuous discharge of 200A; check it against the controller and your steepest route. See our controller matching article.
- Charging. A larger pack takes longer to charge, so plan the charger and the overnight window; the page lists a standard charge of 40A.
- Service. One pack out means the vehicle is down; two packs may allow limited running. Decide which risk matters more.
Redway’s fleet and commercial systems page and our fleet sizing article help with the range side. Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model.
Before ordering
Ask the supplier for a drawing of the pack, the terminal positions and the cable exit, and compare them with the vehicle bay on paper first. If the vehicle is new to lithium, order one pack as a fitting trial before a full fleet. Record how long installation takes, so later batches can be planned.
Risk limits
Figures are from Redway’s product page and may change, so confirm size, weight and current for your order. Do not parallel packs unless the supplier approves the arrangement. This article is general guidance for fleet owners.
Additional perspectives
Count how many vehicles share the same bay. If most do, a standard long pack gives one spare design for the whole fleet, which usually matters more than a few kilos of weight.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Fleet manager perspective
Dry-fit the pack with the supports and cables before ordering, and check there is room to lift it in and out. A tight fit makes every later service job slower.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Installer perspective
Check that the cables, fuse and contactor suit the peak current of your route. A large pack can supply more current than the original wiring was designed to carry.
