A dealer sells three cart models: a standard course cart, a lifted cart with larger tyres, and a utility cart that climbs steep paths with a load. Redway lists its 48V 100Ah pack with 200A, 250A and 315A BMS ratings, and the dealer wants to match each cart to the right variant.
Match the BMS to the controller’s current and how long it lasts. The figures in the names are peak ratings. Redway lists the 200A version at 100A continuous and 200A peak for 10 s, the 250A version at 200A continuous and 250A peak for 10 s, and the 315A version at 150A continuous and 315A peak for 30 s. Compare these with the controller’s current limit and your hardest climb, not just the number in the name.
The three variants
- 200A BMS: 100A continuous, 200A peak (10 s). 500 x 355 x 247 mm, 43.2 kg.
- 250A BMS: 200A continuous, 250A peak (10 s). Same size and weight as the 200A version.
- 315A BMS: 150A continuous, 315A peak (30 s). 565 x 330 x 255 mm, 46.8 kg.
All three are 51.2V nominal with 58.4V maximum charge and a 40V discharge cut-off.
How to match them
- Controller. Read the controller’s current limit. If it can draw 250A or more, a 100A-continuous pack may trip on long climbs.
- Duty. Long, steady climbs with a load stress continuous current; short bursts stress peak. The 250A version has the highest continuous rating; the 315A version has the highest and longest peak.
- Space. The 315A version is longer and narrower, so check the battery bay.
- Test. Log current on your steepest route with a loaded cart, using the BMS app or a clamp meter.
Practical pairing (to confirm by test)
Standard course carts on gentle terrain often suit the 200A version. Lifted carts and hilly courses may need the 250A version for its continuous rating. Utility carts with long, heavy pulls may need the 315A version for its longer peak, or the 250A version if the load is steady. Redway’s golf cart warranty is 3 years, and 5 years on the 48V 100Ah model. See Redway’s safety and protection page and our controller matching article.
Ordering for a mixed range
If your range needs two variants, label them clearly and keep their spares separate, as they look similar. Record the variant on each cart’s service sheet. Mixing variants by mistake can cause trips on carts that need the higher continuous rating.
Risk limits
A BMS that trips on a hill leaves a cart stranded and can be unsafe, so test before choosing for a fleet. Do not raise controller current beyond what the pack is rated for. Figures are from Redway product pages as of October 2026; confirm them for your order.
Additional perspectives
Log current on the steepest hill with four adults on board. That single test usually decides the variant.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Dealer technician perspective
Check the controller’s current limit setting, not only its rated maximum. Many controllers can be set lower to match a pack.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Controller specialist perspective
Offer customers two clear choices, standard and high-current, with the reason in one line. A simple choice is easier to sell and support than three similar options.
