A dealer group wants its own name on the lithium golf cart batteries it sells to courses and resorts. The supplier says branding is available. The dealer’s operations manager wants to know exactly what has to be agreed and approved before production starts.
Agree six things in writing before production: where each brand element goes (silkscreen, label or laser logo), the artwork files and size limits, the regulatory and safety marking that must stay on the pack, the user manual and any warranty card in your name, the packaging marks, and an approved pre-production sample that you sign. Branding changes how the pack looks. It does not by itself change who tested it or who answers for it.
What can be branded
Redway’s golf cart product pages list silkscreen, label and laser logo options, a user manual, and OEM/ODM support. Its OEM/ODM page says it can print your logo or brand name on the battery body. OEM custom orders have no MOQ (1 piece by default), although some specific products carry a 10-piece minimum, so confirm for your model. Catalog items list about 20 days’ delivery; ask for the lead time of a branded order.
Steps before production
- Artwork pack. Send vector files, colours, minimum sizes and the position of each mark. Ask which method (silkscreen, label, laser) suits each element.
- Label content. Model name, nominal voltage and capacity, energy in Wh, serial or lot format, and your support contact. Keep the factory’s required safety and transport markings. Some destinations also require the Wh rating on the case; for example, the US PHMSA has required it on lithium-ion battery cases since 10 May 2024.
- User manual. Charging, storage, handling and your warranty contact, in the language of your market.
- Reports. Redway’s About page lists UN 38.3 and Grade-A cells (CATL, EVE), along with UL1973, UL2580 and IEC62133; scope is confirmed per model and order. Redway’s batteries are designed and tested to UL-related standards (for example UL 2580 for EV batteries). The test report is typically issued in the customer’s name, and scope and applicable standards are confirmed at quotation. Ask for a report under your own company name and check the standard number, model and date. Ask whether a change of model name affects the scope of a report.
- Sample approval. Approve a physical sample and photographs of the label and logo before the full run. Record the approved revision number in the purchase order.
Risk limits
Use only marks you have the right to use, in the markets where you sell. Sign a confidentiality agreement before sharing drawings; Redway’s OEM page discusses NDAs for OEM/ODM projects. A laser logo is an engraved mark, not a printed colour, so judge it on a sample. Branding does not replace your own incoming inspection. This article is general guidance.
Additional perspectives
Ask for photographs of the sample under normal light, not only a render. Engraved marks can look different from the proof, so approve the real sample and record the revision. Keep one brand file and one named approver on your side to avoid conflicting changes.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Brand owner perspective
Check that your trademark is registered or at least cleared in the destination markets. Agree who owns the artwork files and any tooling made for your design, and what happens to them if the supply relationship ends.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Legal and IP perspective
Put your support contact and a serial format on the label so claims reach you first. Use the manual to state compatible chargers and storage conditions. Clear instructions reduce the number of warranty disputes that start with misuse.
