A warehouse operator bought forklift batteries three years ago. The supplier’s support period is ending, but the packs are working. The maintenance team wants to know what spares and support to arrange before something fails.
Arrange three things before support lapses: a spares list (connectors, fuses, contactors, display or gauge, and charger parts), a record of each pack’s BMS version and parameters, and a written agreement for technical help and repair after the term. For Redway forklift packs, the specification tables show 5 years as design life, and the after-sales technical support period is 3 years. Ask what support and spares are available beyond that period.
Why this matters
Redway’s forklift specification tables show 5 years, which is the design life of the pack; the after-sales technical support period is 3 years. A pack can therefore be in service after technical support ends, and the fleet may then depend on its own staff or an agreement. Deciding this early costs less than finding out during a breakdown.
What to put in place
- Spares list. Connectors, cables, fuses, contactors and any display, with part numbers. Redway’s parts and accessories page lists categories.
- BMS record. For each pack: serial number, BMS model, firmware version, parameter set and the communication interface. Store a copy outside the truck.
- Service agreement. Ask the supplier, in writing, what technical support, parts and repair it offers after the term, response times, and charges.
- Repair or replace rules. Decide in advance at what capacity or fault level a pack is repaired or replaced. See Redway’s repair and cell reconditioning page.
- Training. Make sure two staff can read BMS data and follow the fault procedure.
A simple timeline
Twelve months before support ends, review the pack history and ask the supplier for the post-term offer. Six months before, buy the spares you decided on and train your staff. At the end of the term, download and archive the BMS history, and set a review date to decide between repair, support contract or replacement.
Risk limits
Do not open a pack or change BMS parameters without the supplier’s written approval, because it can affect safety and any remaining warranty or support. Mixing cells of different age in a repair needs engineering advice. Redway’s post-term support, spares price list and response times are not published, so confirm them directly. This article is general guidance for fleet owners; our warranty claim evidence article covers claims while the term is active.
Additional perspectives
Create one asset record per pack with serial number, install date, charger model and BMS data. In year three, download and archive the BMS history, because it is the best evidence of how the pack was used.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Maintenance manager perspective
Ask for the support terms after the period in the purchase contract, even if only as a price list or a statement of intent. A small spares kit bought at order stage is cheaper than an emergency order for an urgent part.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Procurement perspective
Define who is authorised to work on a pack and what training they need. Written rules for isolating a faulty pack and for storing a damaged one belong in the site’s procedure before any pack reaches end of support.

Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
