A food-processing plant washes its forklifts daily, and its yard trucks work in rain and dust. The fleet maintenance manager wants a weekly battery inspection list that catches seal and connector problems before water or dust gets in.
Inspect the parts that keep water and dust out: enclosure and lid seals, connectors and their caps, cable glands, vents and service covers. Check for cracks, missing screws, worn seals, corrosion and dust build-up, and confirm cleaning staff follow the supplier’s washing instructions. Record findings by truck and pack serial, and take a truck out of service if the pack is damaged or water has got inside.
The weekly inspection list
- Enclosure. Cracks, dents, missing or loose screws, and lid seal condition.
- Connectors. Housing damage, caps fitted when unplugged, contact discolouration or corrosion; see our connectors article.
- Cable entries. Glands tight, cables not pulled or chafed.
- Vents and covers. Vents clear of dirt, service covers seated and closed.
- Displays and ports. Caps in place and screens readable.
- Dust. Build-up on the pack top and around connectors, removed with methods the supplier approves.
Cleaning practice
Redway’s packs are listed at IP65, which covers dust and water jets, but that does not mean any washing method is safe. Avoid aiming high-pressure jets at connectors, seals and vents, and follow the supplier’s cleaning instructions. Our daily checks article covers operator checks.
Records and follow-up
Log results by truck and pack serial, with photos of any damage. Replace worn seals and caps with approved parts. Redway’s forklift specification tables show 5 years, which is the design life of the pack; the after-sales technical support period is 3 years. Redway’s maintenance page gives background.
Risk limits
Do not open the pack enclosure; internal work belongs to trained technicians following the supplier’s instructions. If water has entered the pack or it is hot, swollen or smells, isolate the truck and contact the supplier. This article is general guidance for fleet maintenance teams.
Additional perspectives
Train the wash crew, not just the technicians. Most seal damage we found came from cleaning, not driving.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Maintenance manager perspective
Make ‘caps on when unplugged’ a rule. An open connector on a wash-down floor is an avoidable risk.
Redway Tech Editorial Team – Safety officer perspective
Photos of a worn seal let us send the right part quickly. Include the pack serial with each photo.

Specifications are taken from Redway product pages as of October 2026. Where a figure isn’t published, this article says so. Confirm current specifications for your model with Redway before ordering. This article is general guidance, not a site-specific engineering assessment.
