A fleet manager is comparing warranty sections from three lithium forklift battery quotes. Each one uses different words for years, cycles and capacity, and the manager wants a list of points to have in writing before choosing.
A useful warranty states what is covered, for how long, and what the supplier will do. Have in writing the period and how it is counted, whether any capacity level is promised, what is excluded, how a claim is made and decided, and who pays for parts, labour and freight. Separate the design life of the pack from the warranty and support period, and keep the records the warranty asks for.
Points to have in writing
- Period. Start date (shipment, delivery or commissioning) and length.
- Design life versus warranty. Redway’s forklift specification tables show 5 years, which is the design life of the pack; the after-sales technical support period is 3 years.
- Capacity terms. Whether any remaining-capacity level is promised, and how it would be measured.
- Exclusions. Misuse, wrong chargers, unapproved changes, damage and storage outside instructions.
- Claim steps. What evidence is needed and how fast the supplier responds; see our claim evidence article.
- Remedy. Repair, replacement of modules or parts, or a replacement pack.
- Costs. Who pays for parts, labour, freight and duties on a return.
Records that support a claim
Keep serial numbers, commissioning dates, charger models and settings, and BMS data if available. Our monitoring article lists useful data. Redway’s packs list about 4000 cycles; use that as a guide to expected life, not as a warranty term unless it is written as one.
After the warranty
Ask how spare parts and technical help work once the period ends; see our spares article. Redway’s warranty and support page gives background.
Risk limits
Warranty terms differ by model and contract, so rely on the signed terms, not a summary. This article is general guidance, not legal advice.
Additional perspectives
Ask the supplier to walk through one real claim from start to finish. It shows how the warranty works in practice.
