The questions that come before an order.
What size cable and fuse does a solar battery need?
Size the cable for voltage drop over the actual run, and fuse at the battery terminal for the inverter’s surge current. Undersized cable is the most common cause of a slow, hot system.
What charge settings does a lithium solar battery need?
The manufacturer’s absorption and float voltages, set on both the MPPT and the inverter. Check them again after the first full charge cycle.
Can a solar battery be charged below freezing?
Not without a heating pad or a self-heating pack. Cold reduces capacity but does not damage cells; charging below 0°C does.
How do I winterise an off-grid battery?
Charge to roughly half, disconnect the loads, and keep it above freezing where possible. Check the BMS log when the system restarts.
What maintenance does a solar battery need?
Little: keep the terminals tight, the enclosure ventilated, and review the BMS log seasonally. The panels and controller need more attention than the battery.
