Chemistry, cell formats and what the specification sheet is really telling you.
What the chemistry actually is
LiFePO4 is lithium iron phosphate: lower energy density than NMC, far better thermal stability and cycle life. That trade decides every application it wins.

Cell formats and how packs are built
Prismatic cells dominate stationary storage, cylindrical cells dominate light EV. The format decides the BMS architecture and the enclosure.

Voltage curve, capacity and C-rate
The flat discharge curve is the practical difference: the last 20% does not feel slower, but the BMS has less voltage signal to estimate state of charge from.

LiFePO4 basics questions
The questions that come before an order.
What is a LiFePO4 battery?
A lithium battery whose cathode is lithium iron phosphate instead of nickel-cobalt chemistry. It stores less energy per kilogram, but it is more thermally stable and lasts several times longer.
LiFePO4 or lithium-ion — which is better?
For stationary storage, boats, RVs and traction, LiFePO4. For phones, laptops and long-range cars where weight dominates, higher-density NMC chemistries still win.
What voltage is a LiFePO4 cell?
Nominal 3.2V, charged to 3.65V, and usually discharged to around 2.5V. That is why packs are labelled 12.8V, 25.6V or 51.2V rather than 12V, 24V and 48V.
How many cycles does LiFePO4 last?
A good cell gives 4,000–6,000 cycles at 80% depth of discharge. Cheap cells with a weak BMS may give a third of that — the BMS and the temperature decide the rest.
Is LiFePO4 safe?
It is the safest lithium chemistry in wide use: no thermal runaway cascade in normal abuse, no cobalt, and stable at temperatures where NMC packs would vent.
