A lithium pack changes the cart’s performance envelope before any motor or controller swap. This page covers what the pack unlocks by itself, and where the upgrade path actually continues.
What the pack alone changes
Voltage sag is the hidden limiter on lead-acid carts.
A lithium pack holds voltage under load, so a tired 48V cart feels faster on the same motor. That is the free performance gain; everything beyond it costs money and needs the controller checked first.

Controllers, motors and where upgrades stop
The controller is the gate, not the motor.
Most upgrade paths change the controller (and its current limit) before touching the motor. Above the controller’s rating you are into brake, axle and certification territory — worth knowing before ordering a higher-voltage pack.

Performance & upgrade questions
The questions that come up before an order.
Will a lithium battery make my golf cart faster?
It usually feels faster because the pack holds voltage under load where lead-acid sags. The actual top speed is still set by the controller unless that is reprogrammed or replaced.
Do I need a new controller to run 48V?
If the cart is already 48V, no. If you are moving a 36V cart to 48V, the controller, solenoid and often the motor rating have to be checked first.
How much range does a 48V 100Ah pack give?
On a standard 48V cart that is a normal day of play — roughly 40–60 km depending on terrain, load and speed. Lifted carts and hilly courses reduce it.
Can I increase torque without changing the motor?
Yes, up to the controller current limit. Beyond that the limiting factor moves to the motor and then to the axle and brakes, which is where upgrades stop being bolt-on.
What speed is street legal for a golf cart?
LSV registration typically caps the cart at 25 mph (40 km/h) with lights, mirrors and restraints. Check the local rule before specifying a high-speed build.
Planning a faster cart?
Send the cart model, current controller and target speed, and we will confirm the pack voltage and current limits that stay inside the cart’s rating.
