What voltage does an eBike battery need?
It is set by the motor and controller — 36V and 48V cover most eBikes, while scooters commonly run 60V or 72V. Match the voltage exactly; the amp-hours are then your choice based on the range you want.
How do I know what range a battery gives?
Multiply volts by amp-hours for watt-hours, then divide by the consumption your riding style produces. A 48V 20Ah pack is roughly 960Wh, which is a comfortable day of assisted riding.
Can I use a bigger battery on my eBike?
Yes, up to what the frame, controller and BMS allow. More amp-hours adds range; more voltage changes the whole system and is a different project.
What BMS does an eBike battery need?
One with a continuous current rating above the controller’s peak, plus cell balancing and temperature protection. Undersizing the BMS is the most common cause of early failure.
Is it safe to charge an eBike battery indoors?
Charge where a failure is survivable — never in a hallway or by the only exit — and use the charger supplied for that pack. Replace a swollen pack rather than continuing to use it.
