What temperature does to capacity, life and charging — and the fixes.
Capacity and charging below freezing
Cold costs capacity, not life. Charging below 0°C damages cells, which is why the BMS blocks it.

Questions
Short answers to the ones that come up most.
Can I charge a lithium battery in winter?
Only above 0°C unless the pack has a heater. Discharging in the cold is fine — it just delivers less capacity.
How much capacity do I lose in the cold?
Expect 10–20% at 0°C and up to 30% at −20°C for a standard LFP pack.
Does heat damage LiFePO4?
Sustained operation above 45°C accelerates ageing. LFP tolerates heat better than NMC but not indefinitely.
